Each year, during the first week of the Summer Holidays, Copmanthorpe Primary and Pre-primary aged children enjoy a week packed with exciting activities all set within a magnificent drama set. Our church building is completely transformed into a new world that matches our theme for the week.
This Year’s Theme was
and ran between 23-27 July 2018
For a week at the end of July, Holiday Club ministered to around 100 children or families. More than 50 volunteers of all ages volunteered their time. There were three holiday club strands: Scramblers (preschool children), Trekkers (infant aged children) and Trailblazers (junior school children). All children explored stories about Jesus as told in Matthew’s gospel. Scramblers was run as an entirely outdoor event. Trekkers and Trailblazers followed Scripture Union’s “Mega
Makers” programme in church, helped by a life sized “Mega Machine”.
Everyone had an amazing time during a week packed with exciting opportunities for the children to learn about Jesus whilst having lots of fun. Many thanks to all those who helped in so many different ways – designing and creating the marvellous set, running all the events and providing refreshments during the week.
Past sets have included Ancient Egypt, complete with Sphinx, under the sea complete with a yellow submarine, a Super Sleuth Agency, complete with working Time Machine. We have also spent time on tropical islands complete with pirates, we’ve travelled through space, passing through galaxies and we’ve come down to earth in fun filled fairgrounds.
Through an action packed time, children learn more about a Bible character or explore a Bible passage. Children take part in singing, dancing, team games, watch daily puppet shows, are creative in craft activities and share special times in their teams for discussion, study and prayer.
All this fun and learning is possible each year due to the dedication, enthusiasm and creativity of a large team of volunteers. These volunteers live in Copmanthorpe and attend both village churches as well as churches beyond Copmanthorpe. We are especially appreciative of our many young people volunteers, whose skill, energy and enthusiasm enhance the week.
